Winter in Central Oregon hits a little different. By the time November rolls around, the mornings are frosty, the mountains are snow-capped, and you’re officially debating if a puffy jacket counts as “going-out” attire. Whether you’re a born-and-raised local or just cruising through town, Redmond is full of cozy, quirky, and downright fun things to do this time of year.
Here’s our laid-back guide to making the most of it (with plenty of warm-up stops at Tite Knot, of course).
1. Catch a Sunrise (or Sunset) at Smith Rock
Smith Rock in the winter is unreal—snow dusted cliffs, pink skies, and hardly any crowds. Bundle up, grab a coffee from our Redmond shop, and make the short drive out. Pro tip: mornings are chilly, but sunsets glow golden against the rocks. Totally worth losing feeling in your fingers for a minute.
2. Ice Skating in Downtown Redmond
Once the outdoor rink opens, it’s game on. Skating under twinkle lights with a hot drink nearby just feels like small-town winter magic. Fall down, laugh it off, then head back to Tite Knot Redmond for a latte and to warm up your toes.
3. Holiday Markets & Makers
November and December are packed with pop-up markets where local artists sell everything from handmade mugs to knit beanies. General Duffy’s in Redmond usually has events, and Bend’s got its fair share, too. Hit a market, stock up on gifts, and then swing by one of our coffee locations to show off your finds over a cappuccino.
4. Ski or Snowboard at Hoodoo or Mt. Bachelor
The big mountains start spinning lifts as soon as there’s enough snow. Hoodoo is laid-back and even has night skiing (which feels wild under the stars). Mt. Bachelor is, well… Mt. Bachelor. Whichever vibe you’re into, nothing beats wrapping up a day on the slopes with a hot drink and something sweet back in town.
5. Winter Hiking & Snowshoeing
Not every trail is buried—lower elevation hikes like the Badlands or Rimrock Springs are still accessible most of November. And once the snow’s in, snowshoeing through the forest is pure Central Oregon therapy. Bring a thermos of coffee (we might know a place 😉).
6. Cozy Nights, Local Bites
When it’s too cold to do much, cozy up inside. Redmond’s food scene is low-key stacked: wood-fired pizza, craft beer, hearty soups, you name it. Or post up with your laptop and a warm chai at Tite Knot and call it your “third place” for the season.
Wrap It Up
Winter around here isn’t just skiing and driving over icy passes. It’s mornings at the coffee shop, evenings wandering through holiday lights, afternoons skating in the cold, and weekends chasing whatever adventure sounds fun that day.
